Sgraffito Workshop
Sgraffito Workshop
Sgraffito a pot, or two, or three
Learn the ancient art of scratching beautiful designs into clay
Come spend an intimate afternoon around my Brooklyn kitchen table learning sgraffito – the timeless technique of carving intricate patterns and designs through layers of slip to reveal the clay beneath. It's like drawing, but in reverse, and absolutely addictive once you get the hang of it.
We'll start by making pinch pots together (one medium piece or 2-3 smaller ones), then I'll guide you through creating your own sgraffito designs. Bring any visual references that inspire you – botanical illustrations, geometric patterns, whatever speaks to you. I'll have plenty of design guidance, but your personal touch is what makes each piece special.
These workshops fill up quickly – there's something meditative about the rhythmic scratching and scraping while conversation flows around my kitchen table.
I'll handle all the firing and glazing afterward, so your pieces come back to you fully finished and ready to display, hold your favorite plant, or grace your dinner table.
